A national tournament bringing together 32 roasters

A Sainte-Julie roasting company among the most appreciated names in Canadian specialty coffee: this is the journey of 94 Celcius in the Favorite Canadian Coffee Roaster tournament organized by Reviews Coffee.

This community consultation brought together 32 roasters from different regions of Canada. Through several rounds of voting, coffee lovers were invited to support the roasting houses they appreciated the most.

Ranked 13th initially in the East division, 94 Celcius managed to reach the quarterfinals, thus finishing among the eight roasters who progressed the furthest in the tournament.

A journey marked by two important victories

In the first round, 94 Celcius faced Rabbit Hole Roasters, a Montreal roasting house well-established in the world of specialty coffee.

94 Celcius won the vote with 299 votes against 278.

In the following round, our team faced Yamabiko Coffee Roasters. We obtained 265 votes against 212, which allowed us to reach the quarterfinals.

Our journey finally ended against Subtext Coffee, a Toronto roaster known for its light roast coffees and its particularly rigorous selection work.

The only Quebec roaster in the top 8

Several Quebec roasters were in the initial bracket, including Rabbit Hole, Pista, Traffic, and Saint-Henri.

According to the published results, 94 Celcius is however the only Quebec roaster to have reached the quarterfinals of this national consultation.

We thus found ourselves among eight Canadian roasting houses:

  • September Coffee;
  • Subtext Coffee;
  • Hatch Coffee;
  • Luna Coffee;
  • Rogue Wave Coffee;
  • Prototype Coffee;
  • Sorellina Coffee;
  • 94 Celcius.

The tournament was finally won by September Coffee.

This result adds to our already noted presence among the best roasters in Montreal, confirming recognition that now extends beyond Quebec's borders.

Recognition driven by the community

This result is not an official championship nor a technical evaluation carried out by a professional jury. It is a community vote reflecting the preferences and commitment of participating coffee enthusiasts.

This distinction nevertheless remains significant for an independent company in Sainte-Julie.

It shows that 94 Celcius' recognition now extends beyond the Quebec market and that our coffees resonate with an increasingly large audience in Canada.

Our progress is based on an approach developed since 2017: selecting traceable coffees, collaborating with committed producers, understanding fermentation processes, and adapting each roast to the true potential of the bean.

A small Quebec team facing major Canadian names

94 Celcius is not a large coffee chain. Our company remains an independent roasting workshop located on the South Shore of Montreal.

Each coffee is selected, roasted, and evaluated by a team that seeks to reconcile scientific precision, curiosity, and pleasure.

Reaching the top 8 of a tournament bringing together several of Canada's most visible roasters therefore represents an important step in our development.

This reinforces an unchanged ambition: to promote Quebec specialty coffee here and elsewhere. This result adds to other recognitions obtained by 94 Celcius since its founding in 2017.
