The origins of the specialty coffee scene in Montreal
The story of specialty coffee in Montreal really took off with the arrival of Saint-Henri Micro-Roaster in 2011. A pioneer on the local scene, Saint-Henri led the way in showing that it was possible to combine quality, transparency and a passion for coffee. This first step sparked a real dynamic in the city, inspiring other roasters to focus on craftsmanship and educate consumers about the subtleties of specialty coffee.
Since then, the culture of quality coffee has continued to grow, with the emergence of new players such as Kittel, Pista, ZAB and the support of infrastructures like the Canadian Roasting Society. This cooperative gives small roasters in Montreal access to professional roasting equipment and the opportunity to collaborate in a spirit of community. This has enabled passionate artisans to create unique products rooted in quality and respect for the bean.
